Ways to Control Pests Around the Home

    By Joe Libin | home | 0 comment | 17 May, 2018 | 0

The best part of a home is that it keeps you safe from the elements outside. The problem with having space is that the warm protection attracts pests and other outdoor insects. You might want to rid those pests where some store-bought solutions, but believe it or not, you have some answers already in your house right now. To keep those outside pests where they belong, here are some tips on how to keep them from bothering you in your home.

    Vinegar

While vinegar is a great cleaning solution, it is also a significant pest deterrent. Ants don’t like the scent of it, so if you have an infestation, try placing a little vinegar where they are getting in. It also takes away their scent trails, so they won’t know how to navigate the area anymore. Also, they also help with your fruit fly problems. Just put a little vinegar mixed with some dish soap to create a trap fruit flies can’t escape.

    Catnip

Are cockroaches invading your space? Surprisingly, catnip is a natural deterrent for cockroaches. To keep them out, simmer some catnip in the water like a teabag, and use that to spray in areas where the cockroaches appear. You can also use the sachets to keep them away, but avoid using them if you have cats at home.

    Salt

Who doesn’t have an ample supply of salt around the house? As we know, salt is a natural dehydrator. Use salt in your carpets to kills fleas and their eggs. Make sure you vacuum it out a day later, and your flea problems should go away.

    Vacuum Cleaner

Speaking of vacuum cleaners, they can be a safe way to rid your home of a ladybug infestation. You can even release them outside if you have a tender heart for them. Use a pair of pantyhose attached on the inside of one of the vacuum hose attachments with a rubber band to trap and release them outside safely.

    Citrus

Do you have an infestation of spiders? A great way to keep them away from an area is citrus. They have taste buds on their legs, and they despise the taste of citrus. Just mix a little lemon or lime with some water and spray areas where the pests can get in.

    Mint

Mint can be an acquired taste for many people. The same goes for a lot of pests. Mint repels some critters like ants, flies, mosquitos and even mice. Dip a cotton ball with some mint or little teabags of mint in areas where they appear and see your home insect and pest free soon.

Your home should be your sanctuary, not a refuge for bugs and pests. Use some of these simple tips to make your home a safe place from critter from the outdoors.
